Sri Chinmoy

Sri Chinmoy (born Chinmoy Kumar Ghose) was an Indian spiritual teacher. He was born on August 27, 1931 in in Shakpura village in Bangladesh. After he lost his father in 1943 and his mother in 1944, he joined his brothers and sisters at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. He lived there for twenty years practicing meditation and studying Bengali and English literature. He wasn't satisfied with conditions that he had in the Ashram so he decided to emigrate to USA. He found sponsors who helped him to receive a green card. One requirement was that he provide reference from Sri Aurobindo Ashram to prove his suitability as a teacher (Wikipedia). I can't understand why would any reference from an Indian Ashram would be worth anything in the USA? It's very strange that someone in the US is asking for a reference about his knowledge of Hinduism which doesn't have anything to do with the true God. This really doesn't make any sense at all.

Sri Chinmoy claimed to be an Avatar or a direct incarnation of God. That is a lie because Jesus Christ is the only incarnation of God, and there weren't any incarnations of God before Jesus nor will there be any after Jesus because Jesus is the only one.

Sri Chinmoy also claimed that God commanded him to bring the illumination of East to the West. He connected himself to Krishna as a reincarnation of Arjuna, his dearest devotee. All these are lies because there is no reincarnation, and Krishna is not god but a human being. He claimed that his will is God's will because he was his direct representative in the World. His spiritual teachings are wrong and Chinmoy is misleading people with them. He wanted obedience from all his devotees so he claimed that if they ever leave him their souls will punish them. He even claimed that the souls of those who go against him will leave those people. All this is nonsense. His teachings are completely wrong and you don't have to fear him at all.

The photo that you see should supposedly show his "transcendency". His devotees named this picture "The Transcendental Picture" or more simply "The Transcendental". In 1992 he demanded from all his devotees to meditate on this picture at 6.00 am for at least 30 minutes. He actually proclaimed himself a god. All those who meditataed sinned against the First Commandment because he was just an ordinary man.

Chinmoy had other strange demands for his devotees. He wanted that they all abstain from sex and marital life and that they shouldn't have children. This is a violation of a basic human rights. Although he proclaimed celibacy he had sexual relations with several women. In 2009 three of his female devotees claimed that they had sex with him on his own request in his San Francisco center. He also had sex with Alo Devi, who helped him to come to the US and sponsored his work there. This makes him not just a liar but a hypocrite.

Many of his devotees had to work for free in his Sri Chinmoy Center Church Inc. after they finished their regular jobs. Some of them worked full time for very low wages. When he died his assets were worth around 2 million dollars and all his assets and properties were under his name. He owned 6 properties, four of which were located in Jamaica Queens. It is obvious that his spirituality was a very good business for him.

In 1977 he founded Sri Chinmoy Marthon Team, which holds running, swimming and cycling events all over the world. In the 1990's he demanded that all his male devotees should finish at least a half marathon (21 km). I think that 98 % of men are unable to run such long distances so these requests are really awkward. He conducted himself as if he was supernatural, but he was just an ordinary human.

According to his followers Sri Chinmoy wrote 1,500 books, 115,000 poems and 20,000 songs and created 200,000 paintings during his life. All these numbers are exaggerated and they show that his followers want to create a cult of personality. Even when he was alive he managed to erect his statue in some public places. His teachings come from Hinduism which is a false religion and there is absolutely nothing that Sri Chinmoy can teach us. He died from a heart attack in 2007 in New York.
